There's a lazy idea about veterans football that we've never accepted: that once you're the wrong side of 35, the game is winding down and you're just seeing out the clock. We've spent years proving the opposite, and Whitehill & Bordon Veterans is where we prove it properly.

This isn't a farewell tour. It's a fresh start with a serious edge.

A new mindset

Everything we're building begins here, between the ears.

Football at our age isn't about clinging to what you used to be. It's about knowing exactly who you are now: sharper in the head, calmer under pressure, better at reading a game than you ever were at 22, and hungry in a way that only comes when you understand how much you actually love it. The legs might not do quite what they once did, but the brain more than makes up the difference, and a group of experienced players who think the game properly will beat a quicker, greener side more often than not.

The mindset we want is simple. Turn up. Work hard. Look after each other. Compete for every ball like it matters, because it does. Leave the ego at the gate and the effort on the pitch. We're not interested in players who want a gentle jog and an easy Sunday. We want people who still want to be good, who still get a kick out of getting better, and who understand that a football club is only ever as strong as its worst standard on its worst day.

That's the culture we're setting from day one, and it's non-negotiable. Not because we're strict for the sake of it, but because standards are contagious. Set them high and everyone rises. Let them slip and everyone follows. We know which club we want to be.

A new arena

A club needs a home worthy of its ambition, and we've found ours.

The Daly Ground on Budds Lane isn't just a pitch, it's a place with a century of football in its soil. Named after a garrison commander in 1919 and once home to the Army's own football team, it's a ground that has watched generations of men play hard, stand together and take pride in the shirt on their back. There's something right about a veterans side calling it home. We're not the first group of grown men to give everything on that grass, and we won't be the last.

It's a proper surface, in a proper setting, in a town rebuilding itself around exactly the kind of active, connected community a football club should be at the heart of. Walking out there feels like a step up, because it is. When you train and play somewhere that feels like it means something, you carry yourself differently. The arena raises the standard, and the standard is the point.

A new shirt

New shirt, new pride.

Pulling on a fresh shirt is a line in the sand. It's a clean start, a clear signal that this is a new team with new intent, and a reminder every single week of what you're representing. We want players who feel that when they put it on, who understand that the shirt isn't just kit, it's a responsibility to the ten others alongside you and everyone who's worn it before.

We've thought hard about how we look, because how you look is part of how you carry yourself. This is a club that turns up sharp, plays with pride and takes itself seriously, and the shirt is the first thing that tells the world so.

A new badge

And then there's the badge. The Stag.

We didn't pick it lightly. A stag is exactly what this club is about: strong, proud, built to stand its ground, and part of a herd that moves and protects as one. It doesn't spook, it doesn't back down, and it's at its most formidable surrounded by its own. That's us. Antlers up, heads down, together.

A badge is a promise. Ours says: we compete, we stand together, and we do it the right way. Every player who wears it is signing up to that, and every player who wears it makes it mean a little more.

This is the start

So here's where we are. New mindset, new arena, new shirt, new badge, and a squad, some who've been with us for years, some brand-new faces, ready to build something that lasts.

We're not looking back. We're not winding down. We're a proper football club that happens to be for players over 35, and we intend to be one of the best around, on the pitch and off it. If that sounds like your kind of football, there's a place for you here.

Our home, and the town that shaped it

Every club needs a home, and ours sits in a place with a story worth telling.

The Daly Ground on Budds Lane is our base for the 2026/27 season, right in the heart of Whitehill & Bordon. To understand what that means, you have to understand the town. Bordon began as an Army camp in 1863, and for more than a century this was a garrison town through and through. After over 100 years of military service, the Army left in December 2015, and what happened next is one of the more remarkable stories in Hampshire.

Following the departure of the Army, a plan was put in place to transform Whitehill & Bordon from a garrison into a green, healthy and connected town. The move freed up over 100 hectares, a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape the place entirely. Today that regeneration is well underway, with new homes, new facilities, and one of its proudest features, the award-winning Green Loop of cycleways and footpaths, encouraging exactly the kind of active, outdoor living a football club is built on.

That heritage matters to us. Bordon's military past was about discipline, fitness, teamwork, and pride in the badge you wore, the same values any good football club is built on. We like the idea that a town that spent 150 years training and preparing is now a town rebuilding itself around health, community and connection. A veterans football club fits that story rather well: players who've put the years in, still fit, still competitive, still turning out for the shirt.

Budds Lane itself has been part of the town's transformation, upgraded as part of that green vision for walking and cycling. Playing our football here, on the doorstep of a community reinventing itself while honouring where it came from, feels right.

Two Years in the Making

Meet the players who've trained, developed, and grown with us

New club, but not a standing start. That's an important distinction, and it's one we're proud of.

A core of this squad has been together for two years. Two years of training, of playing, of learning how each other move, of building the understanding you simply can't buy or rush. When people see a new team, they assume it's eleven strangers thrown together in August. Ours isn't. What we're bringing to Whitehill & Bordon is a group that's already been on a journey together, and that head start shows.

Those two years have done something you don't get from a single pre-season. Players who've developed their game, sharpened their fitness, and grown into a genuine unit. They know the standards because they helped set them. They know how we want to play because they've been playing it. When we talk about a fresh environment, it's not a reset to zero, it's the right home for a group that's already put the work in.

Alongside that foundation, we're welcoming new signings into the fold, players who add to what's already here and who'll benefit from walking into a settled, welcoming squad rather than a building site. That mix, a proven core plus fresh quality, is exactly what you want going into a season.

To the lads who've been with us through the graft of the last two years: this new chapter is built on your commitment. And to the new faces joining us: you're walking into something real, with foundations already laid.
